THE WAR OF KARGIL

On 1st June 1999 his unit proceeded to the kargil sector on the eruption of a war like situation in kargil, Drass ant Batalik sub sector from where he was sent along with his company on the first strategic and daring operation to recapture the first peak of utmost importance point 5140, which was an altitude of 17000 feet. Upon reaching point 5140, the enemy commander challenged him by saying “why you come shershah, you will not go back.” SHERSHAH name given to vikram by commanding officer and vikram replied “we shall see in one hour who will remain on the top” in a short while captain batra and his company of troops killed eight enemy soldiers and more importantly capture a heavy anti-aircraft machine gun. Mission point 5140 was a success.
Re-capture of point 5140 paved the way the way to return of the rest of peaks and cleared the Shrinagar-Leh-Highway which sat in motion of success like capturing point 5100,4700 junction, three pimples and the ultimate prize- tiger hill. After capturing the point 5140 captain batra said jubilantly “Yeh Dill Mangey More!” On successful capture of the vital peak he was congratulated and graced by the chief army staff, general VED PRAKASH MALIK on phone.

Now the next challenge was point 4750. the enemy said “shershah, nobody shall be left to lift your dead body” to which captain batra replied “don’t worry about us, pray for your safety”. He captured point 4750 and hoists the national flag. He also played a commendable role in the capture of tiger hill. He had dedicated himself and was determined for total victory.

He proceeded according to his famous line that was “Yeh Dill Mangey More!!.” He volunteered himself for a third crucial operation, recapturing point 4875 which was at an altitude of 17000 feet and had a gradient of 80 degree. He attacked the peak along with his company and another led by Captain ANUJ NAYYAR, MVC. They gave the enemy a tough time, killed a number of enemy troops and recaptured the peak on  5 July 1999. The enemy counter attacked the peak on 7th July 1999,but he retaliated the counter attack with vigor.

In the heat of battle, one of his junior officer lieutenants NAVEEN was seriously injured and he immediately went to his rescue. While dragging lieutenant NAVEEN back under cover, he pleaded to captain VIKRAM to let him continue the fight despite his injuries to which captain Batra replied “Tu Baal-Bachedaar Hai Peachy Hat Ja.”
The brave captain was hit by a bullet in the chest, with the word “Jai Mata Di” on his lips he fell down and was hit again in the waist by a artillery splinter. Before succumbing to his grievous injuries, this brave son of motherland and a true lion of Bharat Mata killed another five enemy soldiers.

Captain Batra fought with exceptional bravery and magnitude, which is rarely seen. He has set an example before the youth of our nation, which shall inspire generation to come. In recognition of his gallant act, point 4875 has now been renamed as captain vikram batra top and has received all credit to capturing this vital peak by his commanding officer Y.K JOSHI, 13 JAK Rifles for his sustained display of the most conspicuous personal bravery and junior leadership of the highest order in the face of the enemy.
Captain Batra was awarded the PARAM VIR CHAKRA, India’s highest medal for gallantry, posthumously. His father Mr. G.L BATRA received the award from the president of India on behalf of his brave son.

VEERA’S VIEW

The brave martyrs had done their work. They embrace the death with a smiling face with satisfaction that they completed their duty. Now what’s our duty????? Only give a look to these written paragraph or something else…… just think we are the debtors of these brave martyrs and of course “ISS DESH KI MITTI KE.”

captain saurabh kalia

Captain Saurabh kalia a name who is still fighting for justice; for the act which had done by Pakistani army to be declared a war crime by the UN

Captain Saurabh kalia son of Dr. N.K. kalia (a retired senior scientist from the council of scientific and industrial research) and Mrs. Vijay Kalia was born on 29 June 1976 at Amritsar, India. His schooling took place in D.A.V public school, Palampur.
Saurabh graduated in Bsc.(med) from H.P Agricultural university Palampur in 1997. he was brilliant in studies securing first division and winning scholarship throughout his academic year. After completing his graduation in May 1997, Saurabh was selected in the Indian military academy, Dehradun in august 1997, through the combined defense services and was commissioned on December 12, 1998.

Captain kalia was hailed as the first officer to detect and inform about the PAK intrusion while doing portal duties in the first fortnight of may 1999. He went out for portal duty 3 times to check the infiltration in the Kaskar area of Kargil. He was detected the intrusion in the area. His commanding officer deputed a slightly order to check the BAJARAN POST. Captain kalia and 5 other soldiers named sepoys Arjun Ram, Bhanvar lal bagria, Bhika ram, Moola ram and Naresh Singh had gone to patrolling the BAJARAN POST. Here these soldiers were fired by Pakistani troops. The brave soldiers kept fighting and ran out of ammunition. Their signal instruments went out of order and finally they got encircled by about 200 Pakistani soldiers and were captured alive before the reinforcement reached at that height.

Any trace was not find by Indian troops of this petrol and sakrdu radio of Pakistan reported that captain Saurabh kalia and his five man were captured alive. Captain Saurabh and his five jawans were in their captivity for over 22 days (May 15 to June 8, 1999). A most heinous and atrocious face of Pakistani army was looked by the world. Their bodies are subjected to unprecented brutal torture; one can see the unlimited barbarism of Pakistani army. Their bodies had burned with cigarettes and their ears pierced by hot iron rods and even their private parts and organs were also damaged  captain Saurabh kalia’s skull was fractured and most of the teeth and bones broken. He had a bulled injury in the temple indicating that he was finally shot dead.

These six brave sons of India had fought the real war of kargil of 22 days. Pakistan army indulged in this most terrible act. These six soldiers were the victim of unlimited barbarism of Pakistani army. The postmortem report confirms that injuries were inflicted before death. This incident is known as the worst kind of physical torture in post war Indian military history. In a savage and cowardly manner Pakistani army shot them dead ultimately. These irrefutable facts were brought to light following a detailed postmortem conducted later at New Delhi.

After doing this cowardly act; shameless Pakistan denied and dismissed these allegations arguing that it was the handiwork of Indian mujaheedins and Pakistani army or government nothing to do with this incident. The skardu radio in Pakistan occupied Kashmir broke the news their capture but the director general military operations of Pakistani army denied when repeatedly asked by the Indian counterparts. One can’t understand the point of view of Pakistani army or government. They do the most heinous act with our soldiers as well as they show the scant concern for their own soldiers numbering in hundreds and Indian army had to bury them with the due respect and honors during kargil war.

The detailed postmortem conducted by the Indian army reflects this unlimited barbarism; which a common man would shiver just to think of what had happened to these soldiers. Their wound speaks the volume of their patriotism and valor. Not only Mr. and Mrs. Kalia but the army and the whole nation had lost a brave and a dedicated son. The Himachal Pradesh government as a mark of respect has raised ‘Saurabh van vihar’ in a sprawling area of 35 acres in Palampur town. Their besides renaming a street in the town as captain Saurabh kailaia marg(earlier known as sugghar) a nursing college in the proposed Vivekananda  medical research trust hospital Palampur is being  raised at the cost of 80 corer in captain Saurabh kalia’s memory.

Destiny played cruel joke on Captain Saurabh Kalia----- great believer in BAJRANG BALI an incidentally he got captured at the BAJRANG POST and laid down his life in the ‘OPERATION VIJAY’ the name of his mother as Mrs. VIJYA Kalia. last word of this Valliant soldier to his mother before going to kargil were “MAA,TUM DEKHNA EK DIN AISA KAAM KAR JAUNGA KI SARI DUNAI MEIN MERA NAAM HOGA.” The whole nation offered its salutation to this heroic and selfless son of ‘Bharat Mata’. He had done his work for India now it’s the term of India to reciprocate him. His father at the age of 62 years Is still fighting for justice. He wants the act to be declared a war crime by the UN. A numerous letters to the center have failed to move the government to pursue the matter with world body. Mr. N.K Kalia wrote a series of letter to the ministry of external affairs. Crooked and corrupt Indian politician are busying in their Swiss bank accounts.

In order to declare a war crime, the ministry of defense needs to write to the  minister of external affairs, which then takes to the matter with the UN HUMAN  RIGHT COUNCIL. The council then reffres to the general assembly which can declare war crime. It then goes to the international court of justice. It is the ministery of external affairs that did follow up the case with the UN, says colonel (retired) S.K Aggarwal, former judge advocate general (JAG) officer.

Captain Saurabh kalia sacrificed his life for us now think what you have done or what can do for him ???????????

A TALK TO Mr. AND Mrs. KALIA

Dr. N.K KALIA and Mrs. VIJAY KALIA , the parents of brave soldier are harassed a lot today. They had forgotten that what had happened with them in KARGIL WAR. Their wounds are yet to heal, they are still struggling for their cause.

It is unfortunate that Indian human right organization was showing the feeble reaction to this vital issue on any platform. Dr. N.K. Kalia says, “we are however overwhelmed by the unprecented public support”. The love, respect, honor and deep sense of belongings showeded on us by innumerable persons over 1.25 lakhs e-mails and over 4000 written letters apart from several persons visiting or calling from India or abroad vouch for that.

Dr. Kalia regrets that when the bodies of these brave martyrs arrived in new Delhi 1999, there were a lot of statement from various ministers, including PM and other high ranking officials but over the time all initiative evaporated. Referring to the irresponsible and indifferent attitude of mass media. Dr. N.K. Kalia told that, “a few high profile editors from the Indian press tried to disparage this incident when a rejoinder was sent by me. Only Shri Vinod Mehta kindly replied that the Pakistan foreign minister had mentioned about the extreme torture not mutilation of the body and Mr. PRAFUL BIDWAI published my letter while some others did not have the courtesy to acknowledged my letter, leave alone replying or publishing my rejoinder.

Becoming sentimental Dr. N.K.KALIA argues that sacrificing oneself for the nation is an honour, every soldier would love to do but no parents can accept what happened to these brave sons of India. After this incident every parents thinks twice to send their wards in armed force if the governmentfalls short of its duty of safeguarding their prisoners of war ant let them meet the fate of these soldiers. This may set a disturbing trend. This must be understood that this is not the problem of kalia’s family only but a national issue. Dr. Kalia feels that if Pakistan is allowed to go unpunished in this case he had every reason to get emboldened to strike more dangerously in futures.
